The Thoughts that Ran Through My Head

Running always gives me time to think to myself. Some people call it 'me-time', 'self-talk', etc. Well, yesterday I thought of something. It wasn't something new to me but it has proven to be true over the years.
It all started when a few student leaders from RGS held a leadership/motivational programme for students in my school. One of them whose name, I think, was Subashini, wrote a note for me and on it, it was written "Aim for the moon. Even if you don't reach it, you will land among the stars." Being a little girl with no older sisters as role models, what she said was impressed upon me. I wanted to go RGS but didn't do exceptionally well. I did well enough to be offered SAP schools. My 2nd brother was also a role model who gave me advice on sponsorship and that grades weren't the only thing that makes one outstanding. Eventually, I attended his college as well.
It was not easy being a little fish in big ponds but I swam with the school (pun intended ;)) and did average. It was good enough to lessen the financial load and my parents were able to retire early. :)

Right now, I'm very thankful for what I've received. It is indeed God's Grace.

As I was running 10km on an early Saturday morning along the sea, I thought to myself:
It's nice to be the best and beat everyone else. It's not possible for the world to support so many 'best' people (with reference to 'winners' in economics). However, you do not need to be the best to be happy or satisfied or to live well. We all have our own personal best and that's good enough. You just have to learn from the best, work with the best, move with the best and even if you're not the best, you won't be far off.

Yes and that was my Saturday morning. No, I didn't win the top 10 prizes in the run but Yes, I finished the race and was ahead of many others. :)

Fast forward to the good times

It's a rainy Sunday afternoon and it's been a long while since Sunday wasn't sunny. The smell of beautiful white lilies in my room makes me feel serene and sad. If there's anything you should remember, relationships are what makes anyone more humane. Kinship, friendship and love.

The other day while i was running, another thought popped into my head.

The rising sun and the setting one, are both beautiful and quick
in the blink of an eye, you'd have missed the beautiful sight
But it is the day and how you lived it that determines the experience as dusk draws near
and the great hope you feel for the next break of dawn.

Sunday Blabber

The movie was good, not fantastic, but good. What left an impression on is their soundtrack. Really love some of these songs. Totally my style especially 'i need you' by M83. Reminds me of Polica. I quite like Snow Patrol's 'I won't let you go'. And the movie introduced me to Theo James. He's charming in the movie! ;)

Random thoughts as I ran today...

  • I saw a middle-aged man dressed in tattered clothes driving an old dirty van. His passenger was an old lady who is probably his mother. They were chatting in the car. What went through my mind was that he could possibly be a very nice son who sent or went out with his mother somewhere. On the other hand, I was in a cab earlier today and in the conversation between my parents and the driver, he mentioned how unfilial his son is. He was upset that after sending his son to university and now that he's working, he doesn't really care about the family. His wife had passed on and he is living alone. Although he is living well, i guess he would appreciate more care and concern from his children.
  • What I thought about today was that filial piety is a value that does not discriminate. Anyone could be filial and anyone could be unfilial. It's kinda that like how we say that blood is universal. You could be rich, poor, tall, short, Asian, Caucasian, African, Arabic and we could share the same blood groups - O, A, B, AB. Blood does not discriminate. Okay, so maybe it's a bit of a stretch here but I just thought that an educated and well dressed man could be such a jerk to his parents and someone who is less educated and well-dressed could be such a wonderful child. I mean some of us don't even have conversations in the car with our parents. Of course, there are criminals who are good to their parents but harm others. But anyone can be filial and unfilial. Hold your judgement. It's what makes Men so interesting. #psychology!
  • Divergent makes me wanna be smart, selfish, just, kind and brave.
  • My baby nephew makes me wanna have kids like now.
  • Really really want a massive cool outdoor birthday/wedding/whatever party!
  • I like the Chopard Happy Jewellary/Watch collections.
  • We should be allowed to bring pets up public transport as long as we are considerate! We can have rules and regulations but really, at the end of the day, people should be guided by their own moral compass, have their own impulse control and take perspectives of others and be considerate to others. People need to learn that they have to have all these in order to build a good culture and civilization and earn trust. We trust each other to not hurt/harm/be nasty to others. Just like our government and civil service system. It's not 100% without corruption but we trust each other or at least majority, to uphold our code of conduct and ethics. So same for bringing your pets around, keep in others' in mind and make sure your pets are muzzled if they bark or are biters, put into bags, properly toilet trained, does not disturb others, keep in mind of those who may not want to be near dogs due to fear/religious beliefs/etc.
Most importantly, I'm thankful for all the good things that have happened and I trust that the not-so-good ones help me learn to be a better person and that things will eventually be good again. ;)
I hope and pray for health, happiness and peace. Amen.

Running
Tuesday, May 28, 2013 • 12:14 AM • 0 comments
Running calms me. Running allows me to just keep moving on and on. My mind could be filled with fleeting thoughts of randomness and I'll still be running and I'll still be on track. It doesn't matter if I'm fast or slow, I'm moving on and that is all that matters to me. So when people say they like running in new places, for me, new places fluster me. I like familiarity. I like just running aimlessly yet I know where I am and I won't be lost. I like the ideas that come flooding into my head as I run. Sometimes I'm so filled with anger, I just want to tire myself out to feel too tired to feel anything at all. However, I do not reject new places. I love exploring, just that unlike running in familiar places where I can shut myself up and just run on and on while my brain does the wandering; when in new territories, my eyes wander all over to take in the new sights, my ears to take in new sounds and my nose to take in new scents and I tend to run abit slower because running becomes secondary to the joy for and curiosity towards the wonderful new environment. It's also less personal time for myself to reflect on the day's events and to generate new ideas and to mull over issues.

I like running. But my knees and my back do not agree with me.

I'm unhappy. I seemed to have helped with all the write-ups so far while you have appeared to be more concerned with the holiday than the amount of paper work needed to be done. So why do i feel that you blamed me for not being to go for some of the activities? I would have thought of blaming you but I didn't. Honestly, I thought something like this might've happened but I had no other choices. :(

I would like to quit and do whatever I want for awhile. I'm not sure if I am financially capable of that though. :( Time waits for no one. I vividly remember this on the cover of the foolscap pad that mum used to buy for us when we were young. How true, indeed.

And now talk about Time. Time is one of the greatest forces of all...time. It is the silent killer of all feelings, the perfect ingredient for luck and success and the best teacher for every one of us.
Time heals all wounds, erodes all feelings and takes some pain away. No, I won't say completely but definitely most of it.
Perfect timing, people always say. Indeed, to do the right, or even wrong, thing at the right time almost guarantees you success. Unfortunately, such perfect timings, do not come more than once or twice.
Time teaches us lessons through the experiences we have gone through every living seconds, minutes, hours, days. We may or may not learn from the lessons but we definitely gain experiences.
I subscribe very much that time dulls feelings and memories and that right timing is crucial in most situations. I'm also very sure that everyone of us has learnt a thing or two from the times we have had through our lives thus far.
If you know me well, I'm a random person. As much as I prefer familiarity, I hate mundane-ness. I like to move on, try new things, explore and be happy. So time is important to me and time passes by even more quickly for someone like me. Recently, someone made me realised timing is really important and that with time, things change and I hope he learnt something this time. Noone likes to play second fiddle. Everyone wants to be treasured.

And so like Travis sings... I'm feeling like a driftwood but I don't want to drift anymore. I want to reach my shore. So where's the shore?

Land Ahoy! God bless.
